It activates your nerve receptors for a long time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Medicines\ncan change the levels of the following substances:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1.\nDopamine<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2.\nSerotonin<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3.\nNorepinephrine, also called norepinephrine<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some\ndrugs work in combination with the other two chemicals listed above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Examples\nof these drugs:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1.\nSelective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). SSRIs inhibit the reuptake of\nserotonin. Examples are fluoxetine (Prozac), paroxetine (Paxil), and citalopram\n(Celexa).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2.\nSerotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). SNRIs work by blocking\nthe reuptake of both serotonin and norepinephrine, thereby increasing levels of\nthese two chemicals in the brain. Examples include duloxetine (Cymbalta) and\nvenlafaxine (Effexor XR).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3. Tricyclic\nantidepressants (TCAs). TCAs block the reuptake of norepinephrine and\nserotonin. Examples are imipramine (Tofranil) and nortriptyline (Pamelor).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4.\nNorepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitors (NDRIs). NDRIs such as bupropion\n(Wellbutrin) are neurotransmitters<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;5.\nInhibits reuptake of norepinephrine and dopamine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Monoamine\noxidase inhibitors (MAOs). MAOIs block the reuptake of norepinephrine,\nserotonin and dopamine. These drugs, including isocarboxazid (Marplan) and\nphenelzine (Nardil), are not as popular as other types of antidepressants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Is\nthere a specific age for depression?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;Depression\nis likely to occur at any age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s\nmore common in adults.
